Consultation Proves A Success
More than 1,500 people have responded to a consultation over the current and future use of Hanwell Community Centre.
Ealing Council issued questionnaires to residents over use of the site and more are expected to be returned before the deadline on Friday.
The council has committed £2million to a programme of urgent works for the well-loved building, which dates back to 1856.
It is currently in a state of disrepair with leaks, rising damp, poor electrics and insufficient fire protection. The council's cabinet has already agreed a programme of works plus improved disability access.
The cabinet also agreed a further £350,000 to be spent on a learning suite, which during the day will be used to train council staff, but out of working hours will be made available to the community.
Contractors will be invited to submit tenders to carry out the work this autumn, with work expected to begin in January 2009.
