MP Sharma visits Hanwell traders

Posted by James Gates on May 26, 09 05:14 PM in Local Authority

MP Virendra Sharma paid a visit to businesses in Hanwell earlier this month to hear their concerns.

Local traders had asked the Southall MP for help regarding individual problems, including business rates, the lack of parking and outstanding planning matters.

One of the main concerns was the parking situation in the area. Mr Sharma welcomed the news that Lidl was offering free parking for all town centre shoppers for up to three hours in its car park.

He said: "I feel this meeting with the local business owners has allowed me to better understand their needs and I welcome their input.

"I will be putting forward their concerns and grievances to the relevant departments of the council and call for an active resolution to long-standing issues in the area.

"I am fully supportive of all local businesses and will be doing all I can to ensure their needs are met in this trying economic period. Any local business that needs help should contact my office."

Mr Sharma's office can be contacted on (020) 8574 0657 or by emailing virendra.sharma@ealing.gov.uk.

We'd like to hear from you.

Councillor David Millican said:

Virendra Sharma has demonstrated little interest in helping local traders.

Small businesses are entitled to a rebate on their business rates. But they have to apply for it. This just means more red tape for already hard pressed local businesses.

This rebate should be automatic. Ealing Council voted that we ask our MPs to follow this up with the government.

As Ealing Council Cabinet Member for Regeneration I wrote to our MPs asking them to take this matter up with the government and Mr Sharma has done nothing. Despite me writing to him twice he has still to respond.

Let's challenge Mr Sharma to do something and take it up with the government. His discredited government.
