Plans for arts hub in West Ealing

Plans are in the pipeline to temporarily use a West Ealing car park which is earmarked for demolition as an arts hub.

West Ealing Neighbours (WEN) have been in discussion with A2Dominion, co-developers of the Green Man Lane Estate, to use the top floor of Singapore Road multi-storey car park for arts projects during the summer.

The car park will be knocked down in the autumn to make way for a community café as part of the £137million Green Man Lane Estate regeneration plans.

But, in the mean time, the residents' group hope people will be keen to make good use of the site and a steering group has been set up to plan the project.

David Highton, chair of WEN, said: "Currently, only the ground floor of the car park is being used and we would like to use the top floor to house arts and sculptures.

"The project has to be done this summer if it is to be successful and we hope we get support from the community to make this worthwhile.

"A similar project is Peckham has been incredibly successful and we hope to have the same success in West Ealing."

Simon Hall, A2Dominion's Community Regeneration Director, said: "Our regeneration team has been contacted by a number of residents who have expressed an interest in A2Dominion getting an arts project up and running in the area over the summer.

"We're looking forward to exploring a wide range of options for an arts project that would involve people of all ages and skills.

"The regeneration of Green Man Lane is not just about building new homes, but creating a place where people want to live and choose to stay.

"Through an innovative and engaging arts project, we'd be aiming to bring a range of people together, not just from Green Man Lane but the wider community as well, setting the tone for the exciting future that lies ahead for the estate."
