SMALL businesses could suffer when a new branch of Lidl opens in West Ealing, according to a local residents association.
Eric Leach, vice-chairman of West Ealing Neighbours (WEN), said the supermarket chain, which specialises in low-cost goods, could end up taking business away from small retailers

Were you aware that every month at the Grosvenor Tavern, Oaklands Rd, Hanwell, local musicians have an opportunity to showcase their talent on the 1st Thursday of every month, one of those who have been participating lately is Delwin Walles who will be at this year's Greenford Carnival,

A-level student at Ealing&West london college, 18 year old Dewin Walles who is a self taught piano and keyboard player will be playing acoustic and electric guitar as well as singing on the day. "I love performing music, playing and recording my own music and backing tracks. I am so grateful to the Greenford Carnival and W7 edge group for giving me the opportunity to make myself known. Music is a passion besides a hobby of mine and I want to continue my Uncle's music legacy and make him proud, it's been a year on since he passed away"

Families visiting this year's carnival can take their pick from a series of talented musicians playing everything from jazz, RnB and hip hop to indie music. Kids and adults alike can enjoy a series of arts and crafts activities and live performances. There are going to be community stalls too.

Activities for children
Several exciting workshops will keep the kids entertained all day, with chances to get to grips with the likes of street dance and arts and crafts. Children can also join in with sports and games too.

This is a great time to support local talent in the Borough so please support our youth and local community event.

A MAJOR meeting to protest against Government cuts to public services will take place at Ealing Town Hall on Thursday.

West London Trade Union has lined up three guest speakers for the event, including National Union of Teachers executive Nick Grant.

THE 2010 Summer Reading Challenge will have an interstellar theme when it takes place in Ealing next month.

A high school has taken part in a national first aid competition and has come out on top form.

Pupils of Drayton Manor High School in Drayton Bridge Road, took part in a St John Ambulance national first aid competition where they treated nose-bleeds, shock and burns during a mock emergency scenario set at Scout Park, Bounds Green.

More than 600 guides and brownies from Ealing and Hounslow took part in activities, from African drumming to wall climbing, to celebrate the Girlguiding centenary.


The Deputy Mayor of Ealing, John Gallagher and Ealing North M.P. Steve Pound watched youngsters take part in street dance, crafts and circus skills,Roller Disco, Didgeridoo and falconry at the guiding Spectacular at the Trailfinders Sports Club, Vallis Way, West Ealing on Saturday (12) The wide range of activities was held thanks to £9,995 from the Big Lottery Fund's Awards for All.

Memories of the past are being preserved for the future as people share their experiences living on an estate which is earmarked for demolition.

As part of the Green Man Lane Estate community history project, people have been remembering what it was like living and growing up in the West Ealing area, before the £137million regeneration works take hold.

Work is about to start on a scheme to provide Hanwell with more than £2 million of affordable housing.

Developer Lovell is about to begin work on creating 10 flats and five houses for affordable rent provided through Ealing Council.

Fly tippers hauled before courts

Two conniving brothers were hauled before the courts for illegally dumping rubbish.

Leslie Price, 42, of Somerset Road, West Ealing, appeared before Isleworth Crown Court on Tuesday and was jailed for 12-months for a string of fly-tipping offences across west London.
