Work is about to start on a scheme to provide Hanwell with more than £2 million of affordable housing.

Developer Lovell is about to begin work on creating 10 flats and five houses for affordable rent provided through Ealing Council.

The scheme will cost a total of £2.17 million, which will also help ensure properties will achieve a 44 per cent improvement in energy efficiency in keeping with current building regulations.

Lovell regional director Steve Coombs said: "We look forward to working with the London borough of Ealing in order to build these new energy-efficient affordable homes.

"This new affordable housing will be delivered directly for the local authority, using Homes and Communities Agency grant funding."

The development, which will replace an existing garage block, is set to be completed in March 2011.
