Ex-cabinet minster and convict coming to St Stephen's Church
DISGRACED ex-cabinet minister turned prison reformer Jonathan Aitken will be coming to St Stephen's Church in West Ealing for a special event next month.
Mr Aitken, who served seven months in prison after being convicted of perjury in 1999, will be answering questions about his experiences in the prison system on Sunday September 12.
He spent 23 years as an MP and was Chief Secretary to the Treasury before losing a high-profile libel case against The Guardian.
Mr Aitken became a Christian while serving his sentence and since his release has worked with prisoners and for prison reform.
His career includes spells as a senior reporter for the Evening Standard and as a war reporter in Vietnam, where he narrowly escaped with his life.
He has written his prison experiences in the book 'Pride and Porridge' and now writes regularly for the American Spectator.
The event is free to attend and everyone is welcome. There will also be Christian worship and a cafe. The talk begins at 6.30 at St Stephen's Road, Ealing W13 8HB.
We'd like to hear from you. Send your stories, pics and videos
