Pedestrian, 64, knocked down at dangerous crossing
A 64-year-old pedestrian was knocked down at a dangerous crossing in West Ealing today.
The man was involved in a road traffic collision at the Lido Junction - the notorious crossing at the corner of Uxbridge Road and Northfields Avenue - at about 1.30pm on Friday (20).
Paramedics treated the victim on the scene before taking him to hospital.
A London Ambulance spokeswoman said: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian. Our staff treated a 64-year-old man who was conscious and breathing. The patient was stabilised before being taken to St Mary's hospital as a priority."
After overwhelming support from residents, Ealing Council announced this week that it will go ahead with plans to improve the crossing at this dangerous hotspot, which currently has no safe light-controlled crossings on either arm of the crossroads.
A council spokeswoman said: "It has the highest pedestrian accident rate in Ealing."
Improvements, approved by Transport for London, will include green man pedestrian crossings on all arms of the junction, movign a bus stop on Drayton Green Road and changes to road markings and signage.
The long over due plans have been welcomed by David Highton, chairman of West Ealing Neighbours who led the campaign for a safer crossing.
He said: "We are delighted that the plans for safe crossings at the Lido will be going ahead and we thank everyone involved the Council, TfL, and all the local residents who worked so hard to make this happen.
"It will make a huge difference to everyone who lives and works in West Ealing."
